Initial data
On the evening of April 13, a resident of Sudbury (HW), working for a repair company, and his colleague on the way to Hanmer saw a strange sight. It was about 21:45 when they came to the top of the hill in Val Caron, from where they had a beautiful view of the valley. At that moment, they saw a blue ball in the shape of a ball with a flaming tail moving across the sky.
At first they thought it was a meteor, but the fiery tail suddenly went out, and the object flashed brightly three times before disappearing. The witness said that "the object was flying too fast to be an airplane, and yet too slow to be a meteor or a shooting star."
He also said it left a trail of smoke behind it, which meant it was in the atmosphere. He said:
"It was very close to the ground, maybe a couple hundred feet up. The three cars in front of us also saw it and slammed on the brakes."
They reported their discovery to the airport and to the local radio station, but did not see or hear anything about it.
