Speaking at the 35th meeting of the Special Political Committee of the ZZ-th session of the UN General Assembly, which was held on November 27, 1978, and was devoted to the creation of the UN Agency for the Coordination of research on UFOs and related phenomena. Colonel Coyne described an incident that occurred on October 18, 1973 with a US Army cargo helicopter, of which he was the commander.
The helicopter with four crew members on board took off from Columbus to Cleveland (Ohio) at 22: 30 local time in good visibility conditions. During the flight, an aircraft with red side lights was seen, as Coyne said, approaching the helicopter at high speed. The crew immediately radioed the approach control room in Mansfield and asked if there was any high-speed aircraft in the area. There was no further response after the reception was confirmed, although the radio communication equipment apparently continued to function.
Meanwhile, the device came close and took a position over the helicopter that was continuing its flight. It measured 50-60 feet (15-18 m) in length and was made of gray metal. A bright red light was constantly burning in the nose of the device, which had a symmetrical shape. A green ray appeared from under the lower part, which then changed the angle by 90 and directly illuminated the helicopter cabin.
Coin noticed that the needle of the magnetic compass on the helicopter's dashboard was no longer holding a clear course, but was slowly rotating. Attempts to establish communication with the earth using the emergency frequency did not lead to anything.
The helicopter, above which this object was still located, began a spontaneous ascent at a speed of 1000 feet per minute, despite the fact that the efforts of the crew were directed, on the contrary, to descend at a speed of 2000 feet per minute. At an altitude of 3,500 feet, the object independently changed the thrust of the helicopter engine, then slowly, fell away from the helicopter in a westerly direction, removing the green light, and the helicopter began to descend.
Before taking off for a moment, I was directly above the helicopter, and at that moment the crew members saw a bright white light. Taking a course to the west, the object then changed it to the northwest and, significantly increasing its speed, soon disappeared.
At that moment, the connection with the earth was restored. The object seen, Coyne concluded his story, was not equipped with any noticeable wings, landing gear, or vertical or horizontal tail. Nevertheless, he demonstrated the ability to change and maintain altitude, course and speed.
Hypotheses
Airplane / Helicopter

An aircraft heavier than air for flights in the atmosphere (and outer space (e.g. An orbital aircraft)), using the aerodynamic lift of a glider to keep itself in the air (when flying within the atmosphere) and the thrust of a power (propulsion) installation for maneuvering and compensating for the loss of total mechanical energy to drag.
A rotorcraft in which the lift and thrust required for flight are created by one or more main rotors powered by an engine or several engines. They differ in maneuverability, the ability to hover and almost vertical takeoff.
