ROME, September 18. An Italian radar station tracked a large cigar-shaped object spotted by thousands of Romans for 39 minutes last night, the Italian Air Force reported here today.
The Air Force said that the Pratica Di Mare station, 40 miles southwest of Rome, recorded the object at 18: 49 hours (local time) and kept it on the radar screen until 19: 28 pm.
The object flew at an altitude of 3,600 feet along a 15-mile stretch of coast to the west of the capital. He flew slowly, then, gaining more speed, disappeared.
The Air Force added that the object had the shape of a cigar cut in half. Smoke was coming from the sharp rear.
Thousands of Romans called the police to say that they had seen the object.
Many said that the trace of exhaust gases in the sky was glowing-Reuters.

Radar Screens Flying Saucer
ROME, Sept. 18. - An Italian radar station tracked for 39 minutes last night a big, cigar-shaped object seen by thousands of Romans, the Italian Air Force announced here today.
The Air Force said the station of Pratica Di Mare, 40 miles south-west of Rome, picked up the object at 6-49 p.m. (local time) and held it on the radar screen until 7-28 p.m.

The Air Force added that the object was shaped like a cigar cut in half. Smoke poured from the pointed rear.
Thousands of Romans phoned the police to say they had seen the object.
