Some fish can walk, but the chain-mail catfish does it in a particularly unusual way. Making his way overland in search of food, he does not wriggle, but rolls in a special way, so that scientists even assigned a separate name to his manner "reffling" (reffling).
The creation is forced to go ashore by extreme conditions. Living in isolated African reservoirs, the catfish sometimes faces lack of food or drought. Then he gets out on land and looks for a new home, while leaving a unique trail in the sand. The creature can stay out of the water for hours.
Catfish orientates itself in space thanks to taste buds located along the body and reading the proximity and quality of water.
The term "reffling" was coined in 2021. According to scientists, the catfish uses its mouth, pectoral and ventral fins, back of the body and tail to move. Such a manner is not found in anyone else.
