Initial data
1954, August 7; 4 p.m. 15 min.; about 1. min. SWITZERLAND, ZURICH, SCHAFFUZ square.
An officer of the Swiss aviation. Observation through binoculars.
Conditions: 5/8 of the sky is covered with clouds. The cloud height is 1300 m. The easterly wind is 60 km/h at cloud level. The height of the UFO is directly under the clouds. (...) The shape of the UFO... resembled an inverted saucer. Its thickness was about 1/6 of its diameter. It was possible to distinguish a wide circular ring surrounding a spherical surface, the diameter of which was about half the diameter of the entire object.
There was no way to see if the spherical surface inside the ring was hollow or not. The color of this wide ring gradually changed, from a silvery shade to pink, then to blue. The pale purity of the shades was amazing. When the UFO's coloring reached red, its contours became indeterminate, incandescent. But they were clear when the color remained silver or blue.
The UFO swayed easily around the vertical axis... Every 4 seconds, a puff of brown smoke escaped from behind him, instantly melting into the air.
On the scale of the binoculars, the object occupied 4 divisions. Considering the angle and the estimated height, the observer concluded that the diameter of the UFO was at least 15 meters.
After walking away and returning a minute later, the officer found that the object was already moving away to the west.
