In 1880, the Geneva professor Brun, checking information about the recent bloody rain, found red scales on the rocks.
He explained the unusual rain by the appearance of microorganisms "protococcus fluvialis" brought here by the wind.

Microbes, single-celled algae, phytoplankton, etc.

Most of the microbes produces a white or grayish - white colony, but there are types of microbes that are capable of releasing dyes or pigments of different colors and shades (red, orange, green, yellow, blue, purple).
