Initial data
Lights move across the sky and unite over a part of New York.
Witnesses claim:
Hanging out on the roof of my friend's apartment building on the Lower East Side in New York. When we were hanging out, we noticed a very large bright light over the Chrysler Building, must be brighter than light pollution. I was born and raised in New York, and I could distinguish ordinary light pollution, even during an event, from something abnormal. We didn't pay much attention to it until one big light started splitting into several smaller lights, probably half a dozen or so.
We thought maybe there would be a movie premiere, but I don't think it would happen in midtown Manhattan - maybe in Tribeca or somewhere else, but I don't know of any big movie theaters on the east side of 42nd Street. Street. Then we noticed that the lights immediately flew in different directions.
One flew to Queens (approximately in the area of Long Island City), one flew to Brooklyn (approximately in the area of Williamsburg or Greenpoint), the third flew to Tribeca or the West Village, and everything seemed to fly apart in the blink of an eye. After a while, they all flew back to the Chrysler Building area and reunited as a group. You can see on one of the videos how they fly off in different areas, and on the other they are together, with one flying out by itself and then coming back together.
It was 2013, so it was done on the iPhone 5s, which doesn't have the best camera and sensor in low light compared to today's iPhone, so it was difficult to shoot them in different areas of the city. It is also worth noting that we noticed a helicopter flying very high, almost over our area, and watched all this. I assumed it was the NYPD, but I couldn't say for sure.
It makes no sense to keep a helicopter in one place so late at night, especially so high. If there was a sports game, it would be much less to get some shots from the horizon, but it was too high and pointed in the direction of the UFO. Finally, it was overcast that night, and UFOs were definitely hiding in the clouds. Even when they flew out of the clouds, you only saw light, you didn't see any objects or spaceships.

Location of sighting: New York City, New York, USA

Watch as these lights move across the sky and unite in a position over part of New York City. The lights do not seem to be controlled from the ground, and they do not follow normal search light patterns. I believe them to be energy entities trying to show the public that they exist. However...in todays Young culture mentality of deny everything and admit nothing...this will be swept under the carpet alike all the rest of the real UFO sightings happing across the world.

Eyewitness states: Hanging out on my friend's rooftop of his apartment building in Lower East Side in NYC. As we were hanging out, we noticed a very large bright light above the Chrysler Building, must brighter than light pollution. I'm born and raised in NYC and I could tell the difference between regular light pollution, even during an event, versus something abnormal. We didn't pay it too much attention until the one large light started splitting off into several smaller lights, probably half a dozen or so. We were thinking maybe there's a movie premier going on, but I don't think that would happen in mid-town Manhattan — maybe in Tribeca or somewhere else, but I don't know of any large movie theaters on the east side of 42nd Street. Then we noticed the lights immediately flew in all different directions. One flew over to Queens (roughly around Long Island City), one flew over to Brooklyn (roughly around Williamsburg or Greenpoint area), one flew to Tribeca or West Village, and all sort of just spread out in a flash. After some time, they would all fly back to the Chrysler Building area and rejoin as a group. You can see in one of the videos them flying off in separate areas and the other video of them together with one flying out a bit by itself and then coming back together. This was 2013 so this was taken with an iPhone 5s, which doesn't have the best low light camera and sensor compared to today's iPhone so it was hard to get footage of them in the different boroughs. Another thing to note was we noticed a helicopter flying extremely high up, almost above our neighborhood, and was watching the whole thing. I assumed it was NYPD, but couldn't tell for certain. There would be no point of having a helicopter just floating in one position so late at night, especially that high up. If there was a sports game, it would be much lower to get some b-roll footage of the skyline, but this was way too high up and pointing in the direction of the UFOs. Lastly, it was overcast that night and the UFOs were definitely hiding in the clouds. Even when they would fly out from the clouds, you only saw a light, you didn't see any objects or spaceships.
Hypotheses
Light sources on clouds

Lasers, searchlights, car headlights and other light sources of sufficient power can form a column of light in a dusty or foggy atmosphere, various patterns on low clouds, fog or haze. Also, the rays can highlight parts of the cloud, objects or birds, giving them bizarre shapes.
Searchlights can shine with one beam, several. They can be stationary, move, and also form spinning carousels on the clouds, which can change shape and color.
It often seems that the light source is located at the point where the beam hits the cloud, and not vice versa.
Investigation
Based on the appearance, these are the searchlight rays on low clouds.
