Two bystanders searching for deer near Strawberry Reservoir smelled a strong smell that resembled untreated sewage. After a while, the smell seemed to dissipate, and they continued walking along the path.
As they rounded a bend in the road, there was a terrible rumble like thunder in the woods to their right. This was preceded by breaking twigs and branches, and something huge was running at high speed.
Later, they heard more sounds and a sound resembling a "grunt". One of the witnesses thought that he saw the shadow or outline of a "man" moving from tree to tree. He estimated that he was 5 to 6 feet (1.5-1.8 m) tall and bipedal.

Two witnesses scouting for deer near the Strawberry Reservoir Area when they smelled a strong odor resembling raw sewage. After awhile the smell sort of dissipated and they kept walking on the trail. As they rounded a bend there was a tremendous crash, like thunder, in the forest off to their right. Twigs and branches breaking and something huge running at a high speed preceded it. Later they heard more sounds and a sound resembling a “grunt.” One of the witnesses thought he saw a shadow or an outline of a “person” walking from tree to tree. He estimated it to be from 5 to 6 ft tall and bipedal.
