Initial data
A squadron of heavily armed Air Force fighters intercepted a damaged UFO over the desert and forced it to land at a remote base where the huge craft and its alien crew are kept secret.
Unnamed senior officials say the sensational capture was preceded by a supersonic air battle high above the barren landscape.
The UFO had engine problems, otherwise American planes would never have been able to keep up with a more advanced airship. The ship was shaped like a saucer and had a diameter of 100 yards (90 m). It had a height of more than 30 feet (9 m) and housed a team of 24 aliens.
According to the descriptions, the inhabitants were about 4 feet (1.2 m) tall with large smooth heads, two large eyes and small mouths. Military investigators using a kind of singing language were able to communicate with them. The highly intelligent creatures claim that they were on a routine mission when their ship encountered operational problems. The commander of the ship intended to make an emergency landing to eliminate the malfunction.
