Local photographer Gunarto Song was in the right place and at the right time to capture this phenomenon, as he recently photographed the volcano. The image you see above was taken from the city of Batu-Alien, and it shows streaks of green light falling directly into the crater.
"Suddenly, a ray of bright light fell on the top of Mount Merapi, as if falling from above. It was super bright and fast. This is an authentic photo. I took a four-second shutter speed, " the photographer said.
Mount Merapi in Indonesia is, in fact, an active stratovolcano located on the border between the province of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta. It is currently the most active volcano in the country, erupting regularly since 1548, thousands of people live on its flanks, and villages are located at an altitude of 5,577 feet above sea level.
One thing you don't expect to see is a meteorite falling into it. Learn more about the short video captured by the security camera.
