Initial data
Time: May 22, 1978, 20 hours 45 minutes
Place: A plain adjacent to a mountain range in the area of Mugr, Akom, Tuva.
Observation conditions: Moonlit night with light clouds (separate cumulus clouds).
Phenomenon: Initially in the north above the Mugurs (upstream of the Rekha, see Fig.) a dull glow appeared (the second Moon), which after a while took the shape of a glowing ball. As they approached, his device became more clearly visible: a brightly glowing point similar in size and color to Venus at the horizon and, as it were, a spiral extending from it, which rotated (see Fig. 2). The spiral seems to have been made on fog. Later, the second point, located 5 o'clock from the first, became distinguishable; it moved as if it was rigidly connected to the first. It seemed to be moving horizontally at cloud level (1.5 km above the horizon), but not in a straight line. The spiral passed at the zenith in relation to the observer, at that moment it became flat and after a while it moved away, the last minutes it was observed through binoculars. The spiral is 4 moons in diameter, and from a great distance it looks like a matte ball. The observation lasted about 10 minutes.

Border guards from the nearest outpost said that they see such spirals once every one and a half to two months. The locator available at the outpost and giving a response from the clouds did not detect such spirals. One day they received a call from a nearby outpost and were warned that this was moving towards them along the state border of the USSR. Such joint observation allowed us to estimate the speed, which turned out to be about 50 km per hour. In addition, large cigar-shaped objects are sometimes seen at the border post, which are also transparent to the locator. Their speed is estimated at 100-120 km/h. They received the working name "green rocket". The border guards are completely indifferent to such phenomena, although they amuse them a little, as a curiosity of their place of service.

For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
