After reading an article in the newspaper "Trud" 124 dated 30.01.85, and finding out your address, we decided to write about the phenomenon that we observed last fall.

In September 1984, we were in the sponsored state farm "Svetlana" of the Volkhovsky district, Leningrad region. Working on the night of September 6 to 7 at the grain flow at 4 hours 10 minutes, the following phenomenon was observed on September 7:

It was a clear starry night, in the dark blue sky we noticed a bright dot that was in a stationary state. After some time, it began to move slowly, as it seems to us, based on the location of the stars (the Big Dipper and the Polar Star) the direction of movement was from the north.

Simultaneously with the beginning of the movement, a bright blue glow appeared vertically downwards, which increased (stepwise). After that, white matte rays appeared from both sides, which illuminated the entire horizon.

After some time, about a few minutes, the glowing dot disappeared.

Immediately after that, the white rays disappeared. The bright blue glow remained motionless until dawn, changing only its shape.

Please explain this phenomenon if possible.
