El 16 de agosto de 2006, la fallecida investigadora australiana de Ovnis Katie Diekmann voló a la Habana. Durante el vuelo, cerca de Cuba, a la izquierda del avión, había un objeto extraño entre las nubes que logró fotografiar.
Otros pasajeros también fueron testigos del OVNI durante unos 5 minutos ; desapareció después de un efecto de luz inesperado.
La reconocida ufóloga contó su experiencia al Comité directivo de la ACU durante una conferencia celebrada posteriormente en la capital cubana.

Cuba: A UFO Photographed Near Cuba

On August 16, 2006, the late Australian UFO researcher Kathy Dickmann was flying to Havana. During the flight, with Cuba nearby and toward the left of the plane, among the clouds, was a strange object that she managed to photograph. Other passengers also witnessed the UFO for around 5 minutes - it vanished after producing an unexpected luminous effect. The noted ufologist made her experience known to the steering committee of the A.C.U. during a conference subsequently held in the Cuban Capital.
