Alrededor de las 15:30 del 11 de julio de 1977, el horticultor Héctor Rufino delgado, de 29 años, trabajaba en su invernadero en la parte trasera de su casa en Florida (Uruguay). Fue un día magnífico con cielos azules casi claros y las temperaturas, a pesar de la temporada de invierno, eran casi primaverales. Una ligera brisa soplaba desde el este.
De repente, el anciano delgado escuchó un zumbido agudo:
"Algo así como lo que produce un motor eléctrico o un Ventilador".
Sin embargo, no prestó atención al ruido y continuó su trabajo. El zumbido se intensificó, pero disminuyó después de unos segundos hasta que se volvió casi imperceptible. Menos de un minuto después, el zumbido volvió a su nivel audible y se intensificó nuevamente. Esta vez, su tono fue un poco más agudo.
"No fue constante, pero su intensidad aumentó y disminuyó notablemente, y lo mismo con el tono", dijo el mayor delgado.
El testigo reflexionó sobre el posible origen del sonido.

Después de unos minutos de indecisión, Rufino corrió a la casa por una cámara. Agarró la cámara y corrió hacia atrás, temiendo que un objeto extraño pudiera volar.
"Corrí tan rápido como pude. Mientras buscaba mi cámara en casa, me preguntaba si realmente valía la pena tomar una foto del objeto o si estaría allí cuando saliera de la casa y volviera.
Sin embargo, desde la puerta de mi casa, lo vi de nuevo, ya no suspendido en el aire inmóvil, sino que se movía muy lentamente hacia el sur".
Apenas regresó al invernadero, ya que se detuvo para tomar una foto, pero vio que había árboles en el camino. Corrió a un lugar mejor.
"Cuando tomé la primera foto, el OVNI todavía se movía muy lentamente hacia el sur, pero apenas tuve tiempo de fotografiarlo, ya que el objeto cambió drásticamente su velocidad y trayectoria y comenzó varias maniobras de ascenso, aumentando su altura sobre el Suelo", afirmó. testigo.

Suddenly, Sr. Delgado heard a high pitched humming sound, “Something like that produced by an electric motor, or a ventilator.” He nevertheless paid little attention to the noise and continued with his work. The humming increased in intensity, but a few seconds later it decreased until it was almost imperceptible. In less than a minute, the humming came back to the audible level again and increased once more. This time its tone was a little sharper. “It was not constant, but its intensity increased and decreased perceptibly, and the same with the tone,” said Sr. Delgado. He laid down the tools he was using and went to the doorway to the lookout. He saw, some 200m from his position and no more than 50m above the ground, a silver disc-shaped object moving smoothly, suspended in the air. “I was slow to react; never had the thought occurred to me that I might encounter a thing like this… but there it was, swinging gently as it balanced itself in the air a few meters above the ground,” assured the witness. After a few moments of indecision, Rufino ran to the house to get his camera. He grabbed the camera and raced back, fearing the strange object might leave. “I ran as fast as I was able. When I was looking for my camera in my house, I wondered if it would really be worthwhile to photograph the object, or whether it would be there when I came out of the house and got back.
However from the doorway of my house, I saw it again, no longer suspended motionless in the air, but moving very slowly toward the south.” He barely arrived back out at the greenhouse when he stopped to take a picture, but he saw that some trees would be in the way. He ran to a better location. “When I took the first photograph the UFO was still moving very slowly toward the south, but I had barely snapped it when the object drastically altered its velocity and trajectory and commenced some climbing maneuvers as it increased its elevation above the ground,” declared the witness.
