The story happened during the fierce battle of Verdun which was the longest battle of the war and the most bloody and ruthless between the French and German troops.

Some people on the front line talking about a Ghost soldier dressed in the old clothes of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, with a long white beard and pink cheeks. It was said that the vision appeared from the sky to come to the aid of the French.

Stories of the old Ghost man numerous. Sometimes he would allegedly dropped the weapon from the hands of the enemy or made him stumble. In other cases, he led the French and showed them where to go, or even pushed them physically to protect them from danger.
